Science Related Facilities
The XAF is a central facility for powder x-ray diffraction and related services for Queensland University of Technology, in Brisbane, Australia. It provides research support and service facilities for staff and postgraduate students powder x-ray diffraction - a materials characterisation technique. The XAF also carries out testing services for external clients. The XAF is part of the Faculty Facilities group, which includes the adjacent Analytical Electron Microscopy Facility, specialising in electron microscopy and related techniques.
The laboratory has three diffractometers, two of which are fitted with multi-position sample changers. One of these systems (PANanalytical X'Pert Pro Multi-Purpose Diffractometer) can quickly and easily be reconfigured from conventional Bragg-Brintano optics to mirror based parallel beam/thin film analysis. Cobalt and copper are the standard sources, other sources are available on request. There are various sample preparation equipment including swing mills and micronisation mills.
